HISTORY

Originally called Antiplis, the town began as a Greek trading post more than two thousand years ago. Parts of Roman roads and medieval walls still remain in the town. Fort Carré, a star-shaped fortress built in the 16th century, stands strong at the edge of town, preserving its historical value. Pablo Picasso also lived in Antibes and created some of his best work in the town. Visit the Château Grimaldi to see one of the first public collections of his art!
